Isinbayeva victorious in a dramatic series

The IAAF Super Grand Prix competition in London once again brought
together Svetlana Feofanova and Yelena Isinbayeva in the PV pit. And, once
again, the current WR holder prevailed, only this time the victory was
hard-fought indeed.

Both PV divas cleared the starting heights of 4,33, 4,43 and 4,53 on
their respective first tries. Then, at 4,63, Isinbayeva gets an opportunity
to take the lead, as she clears the height on her second attempt and
Feofanova has to use all of her three attempts to advance. Unexpectedly,
however, Bekker of Germany sneaks up on both of them and claims the lead
with a first-attempt clearance. It was at this point of the competition
that Tatyana Polnova exited the stage, settling for fourth in 4,53.

The contest, however, was far from being over. Isinbayeva clears 4,68
on her first try and takes over the lead, while Bekker drops out of
competition and Feofanova decides to pass this height.

The next height up is 4,73 and World indoor champ does some damage,
clearing on her first attempt. Isinbayeva fails in her first, then in her
second try. Now in second position, she moves her last attempt to 4,78 and
succeeds, reclaiming the lead. Svetlana, slipping up on her first two
attempts at 4,78, moves her last try to 4,83, WR height. However, a new
World mark was not to be this time around, and Isinbayeva prevailed in 4,78
while Feofanova grabbed runner-up honors in 4,73.
