Feofanova European record holder again in 4,78!

Svetlana Feofanova claimed her European record back with a jump of 4,78 m at DN Galan, an IAAF Grand Prix meet in Stockholm. This is her second continental record of the season. Svetlana vaulted 4,76 exactly a month ago in Lille, France, but lost the record to Annika Bekker, who went one centimeter higher at the German National champs in Bochum, on July 7. Feofanova started competition at 4,42, clearing that height, as well as the subsequent 4,52, 4,62, and 4,73, on her first attempt. By clearing 4,73, Svetlana became the meet record holder, stealing that title from World record holder Stacy Dragila (previous meet record of 4,72), who, incidentally, only managed a sixth-place showing last night. The Russian did not stop at the meet record, though, as she proceeded to set the bar at the European record height of 4,78, and promptly cleared it, incredibly on her first attempt as well. It is worth mentioning that Svetlana appeared calm and confident, and all her jumps were a pleasure to look at. The athlete’s spirited performance might have been inspired by the fact that the meet fell on her birthday – Svetlana turned 22 yesterday! And what better present could there have been for the young star than a new European record and a $10,000 diamond, a prize awarded to every record-setting athlete by the meet. Svetlana tried to further sweeten the night by attempting the World record (4,82) and, after twice coming very close to clearing it, promised that the old record will fall in Monte Carlo on Friday.
