Krivelyova takes revenge in victory

Svetlana Krivelyova and Irina Korzhanenko are the two World leaders in the women’s Shot Put this year, with the best efforts of 20,53 and 20,50 respectively. While Korzhanenko outright prevailed over Krivelyova at the Znamenskiy Memorial earlier this season (20,50 vs 19,80), Svetalana packed every bit of her fighting spirit for the road to Cheboksary and put on the kind of performance that would be expected from an Olympic Champion, the title she won back in 1992. After Korzhanenko tossed the shot 19,42 on her first attempt, Krivelyova, who followed her opponent in the throwing order, surpassed her by 2 cm. Similarly, when Irina moved back into the lead with a 20,09 effort in the third round, Svetlana responded with a 20,24 throw on her fourth try, sealing the outcome of the heated battle.
