Svetlana Kriveleva is back with a throw of 20,53!

Without a doubt, the best performance of the second day of the Russian Cup held in Tula came in the women’s shot put, where the 1992 Olympic Champion Svetlana Kriveleva became the World leader with a 20,53 toss.
Yulia Tabakova provided a great deal of excitement for her home fans by dominating the 200 m race in a solid 22,83.
Both the men’s and the women’s fields put on a great show in the 800 m. Irina Mistyukevich was the one to watch on the women’s side. After a brisk first 200 m (28,5), the pace decreased sharply and the leading group hit the 400 m mark in a very modest 60,5. Then, Mistyukevich took the lead and, with 300 m to go, started picking up the pace and pulling away from the field. The gap increased by leaps and bounds and reached an incredible 20 m by the tape. That translated into a 3,5 second winning margin, which was surprising considering the quality of the rest of the field, headed by the seasoned Olga Raspopova and Yulia Kosenkova. However, those two experienced runners not only allowed Mistyukevich break away, but also let the little-known Nadezhda Vorobyeva, who is coached by Sergey Epishin and Yekaterina Podkopayeva, slip into second (2.02,68). Mistyukevich ended up with the fastest time in Russia this year, 1.59,19, on the strength of a solo 58,6 closing lap.
Ramil Aritkulov impressed on the men’s side, winning convincingly in 1.47,42, and looking like he did not push it to the limit. The recent European Champions Cup winner Sergey Kozhevnikov finished far behind in fourth place (1.49,16). However, he later admitted that he used this race as a stress workout.
